Living History Arts

Living History Arts programs—integrating personal reminiscence, oral history, and art making—are at the heart of ESTA’s mission. ESTA conducts its Living History Arts programs in senior centers, NORCs, libraries, and other community-based sites throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, Staten Island, and the Bronx. Running for as short as 5 sessions and as long as 40 sessions, art forms include the visual arts, theater arts, writing, and storytelling. Often ESTA’s Living History Arts programs revolve around a theme or topic, including but not limited to: family, home, life lessons, turning points, love, work, traditions, culture, heritage, or any subject a host site would like to explore with its body of elders. ESTA’s Living History Arts programs include: Art Making from Life Experience, Legacies, Life Collage, Pearls of Wisdom Storytellers, the Story Circle, and Writing from Life Experience.
