Story Circle
The Story Circle introduces elders to the art of storytelling. Circles, conducted in senior centers, NORCs, and libraries, revolve around a theme for exploration and culminate with the making of booklets, anthologizing the group’s shared recollections. This program gives elders an opportunity to find their stories, develop a voice, hear the stories of the group, and reflect on commonalties and differences. On March 11, 2009, a Readers Theater presentation, drawing on sixty Story Circles, convening over the course of six years in branches of the Brooklyn Public Library, was held at the Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture in Brooklyn.
